Lifting weights provides assistance with weight loss in multiple ways. While the number on the scale is a good tool, it does not tell the whole story.

When you first start resistance training, you are in a unique position for what we call newbie gains. This means you can gain muscle while losing body fat. Lifting weights has numerous advantages in a weight loss journey, such as:

  • Adding lean muscle mass
  • More muscle mass raises your metabolic rate (muscle requires more calories)
  • Because the body is working to repair structures, you will burn more calories after working out.
  • For best results, combine with healthy eating and cardio.


More muscle mass is like having a large house, your overhead (calories needed) will always be higher.

Additionally, more lean tissue will allow you to complete daily tasks with greater ease.
