Are you finding it hard to stay motivated?

Have you ever felt defeated physically, mentally, emotionally, or all of the above? I am not talking just about the gym or your training. Does the pressure and stress of your job, kids, finances, and whatever curveballs life has thrown at you seem too much? Well, I have been feeling like that as of late and I am sure if you are reading this you have been there too…

I want to talk about one thing that helps me deal with this. DISCIPLINE.

Motivation is short-term. It never lasts. Think about all those New Year’s resolutions that people make each year. I am sure their motivation is high in the beginning, but what happens after a few weeks? It fades, then you find excuses to stop what you started. Does this mean motivation is pointless? Of course not! Motivation is the match that drives human beings to do great things.

If motivation is the match, discipline is the oil that keeps that fire burning!

How do you maintain discipline? Here is your checklist:

1.    Set clear S.M.A.R.T. goals with an execution plan.

·           “If you fail to plan, plan to fail.”

2.    Know your strengths and weaknesses.

·         Self-awareness and limiting temptations can keep you on track easier

3.    Practice discipline daily.

·         New habits take time to form. Practice makes perfect!

4.    Create a backup plan

5.    Have self-compassion!

If you mess up, beating yourself up or giving up altogether does not get you closer to your goal! Dust yourself off and get back on the horse.

All this being said don’t expect perfection. This is the beauty of being human! Always remember why you started in the first place. I will leave you with this:

“Get up and go. Take the risk, take the gamble, take the first step. Take action. Don’t let another day slip by.” -Jocko Willink
